Placenta Chef Services

Chef services are reserved for San  Francisco clients. I will come to your  home to be your personal placenta  chef. This is an option best suited for  homebirth clients, but can be arranged  for those who give birth at a hospital  as well. (Best to be a meal you have  within a few days of the birth.)

This includes a stir fry dinner with customized options, smoothie packets, and also pills if you would like to  reserve a portion of your placenta for encapsulation.

The optional complimentary items are also available with this package: a photo, cord-keepsake (if doing partial pills) and/or blood print.

Placenta Encapsulation

Your placenta prepared by Tomi into pill form. Her unique recipe  involves steaming the placenta to  medium rare, then dehydrating for 1.5 hrs at 131 degrees, then dropping down to 117 degrees for the remaining dehydration.  (usually around 13 hours).

The capsules she uses are high  quality and very easy to digest. They are size 00 tapioca capsules from Capsule Connection. If you have a hard time swallowing pills, you can  request “Powder-form only”

Placenta Burial Ceremony

Many Native Americans and Indigenous  cultures from around the world bury the  placenta.

If you are feeling drawn to honoring your  baby’s placenta in this way, but aren’t quite  sure how to go about doing it, allow me to  help.

We will have a brief intake phone call  sometime after the birth, and then I will come  to your home to help facilitate a personalized  sacred placenta burial ceremony.

It’s a wonderful way honor your body, your  baby, the land, and also a time to perhaps  process some big feelings around the  pregnancy, the birth, etc.

Best around 6 weeks postpartum and can  also be on the same day as a closing of the bones ceremony

Cost is $200

Paint Print

Create a lasting memory with a custom paint print of your placenta. A paint print differs from a blood print, in that the blood is washed off, and your color choice is applied to the fetal side of your placenta. Paper is then pressed against it to make the print or series of prints. The paint is applied with gloves and q-tips. White drawing paper is most often used, but black drawing paper is recommended when making a gold print.

*Note: The paint I use is non-toxic, and I am very careful to wash off every last trace of paint, before proceeding with the encapsulation process.

Tincture

Placenta Tincture is a way to get the most out of your placenta because it won’t expire and can be used for menopause 10-20 years down the road. It is made by taking a raw dime-size portion of the maternal side of the placenta, and steeping in 100 proof alcohol for 6 weeks. It is then strained through a coffee filter into a 4 oz. amber or blue dropper bottle. Store in a cool dark place and it will keep indefinitely. Take 8-10 drops in some water/day to balance hormones during PMS or menopause.

Frozen Smoothie Pieces

This is three small, dime sized raw pieces from your placenta, frozen, and placed in a zip lock bag. You blend the pieces into 12-24 ounces of your favorite smoothie or shake. Don’t worry, you won’t taste them at that ratio. The reason one might eat a few raw pieces after the birth is because it is more potent than the cooked (pill) version.

Recommended for GBS negative clients only.

Placenta Broth

The Broth is what’s leftover after steaming your placenta. (and I add a small piece of placenta to the water while cooking)  It yields about 12 oz. of liquid that goes best  in a stew or soup.  I recommend 1/2 placenta broth and 1/2 beef broth, or steep it with your favorite tea and sip slowly.  It’s meant as a nourishing tonic and has similar benefits to a bone broth.
